Description:

The Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO), in conjunction with the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources, invites you to participate in a one-day Dam Owner Workshop in either Lincoln or North Platte, Nebraska.  Specific location details will be sent to registered attendees.  

The workshop is designed to provide practical, straightforward information on topics of importance to dam owners and those with an interest in dams.  The purpose of the one-day workshop is to provide education/information on the following topics:

  • State Dam Safety Laws and Regulations
  • Extreme Storm Events
  • Common Problems and Why Dams Fail
  • Owner Responsibilities and Liability
  • Operation and Maintenance
  • Safety Inspections
  • Emergency Action Plans
  • Funding for Dam Repairs
  • When and How to Hire a Professional Engineer

The registration cost for the workshop is $20 per person.  A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.  Attendees must pre-register for the workshop by October 15, 2024.  Late or walk-in registrations will not be accepted.

The workshop will start at 8:30 am and end at 4:30 pm Central Time.  Information will be available throughout the day and you will have the opportunity to meet and network with your state dam safety officials and other dam owners.  You will receive electronic access to course materials.

 

Workshop Instructors

Chris Stoner, PE
Chis has 38 years’ experience and currently serves as a Senior Advisor and Water Resources Engineer for Freese and Nichols, Inc.  His experience includes working closely with Conservation Partners and State Dam Safety Officials to prioritize rehabilitation needs, determining costs, and funding strategies, and providing national guidance for watershed operations policy and for the development of national tools.  Chris served as the State Conservation Engineer for 16 years where he provided technical oversight of 2,107 dams across the state of Oklahoma.  Chris spent most of his career working for the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) assisting flood control sponsors with plans, designs, inspections, and construction management activities.  He is a registered professional engineer in the State of Oklahoma.  Chris holds a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering from Texas A&M University.

Wade Anderson, PE
Wade has 35 years’ experience and currently serves as a Senior Advisor and Water Resources Design Engineer.  Wade is dam and levee expert and a national leader in the design, construction, operation, and rehabilitation of water resources infrastructure, including dams, levees, and hydraulic structures.  He has decades of industry experience with the US Army Corps of Engineers at the District and National levels and with the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service, serving as a national subject matter expert, senior geotechnical engineer, and embankment specialist.  Wade’s direct project leadership has led to dam and levee modifications and rehabilitations exceeding $3 billion in planning, design, and construction.  Wade holds both bachelors and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Oklahoma State University.
